Flange Machining

YLE CNC flange drills and machining centers proved to be reliable value-adding machines in fiberglass (FRP, GRP and GRE) pipe fittings production. Active R&D in the field of machine design and automation, coupled with a study of the flange machining process resulted in a highly productive and user-friendly solution for what used to be a bottle neck in GRP flange manufacturing.

Automatic piece detection feature contributes significantly to machine productivity by reducing operator intervention time, resulting in a 25% productivity increase, as shown by statistical results on actual runs. This is implemented by automatic profile scanning using high accuracy position sensor.

Face and circumferential grinding of flanges are provided, contributing to a further increase in overall plant productivity by completing several operations in a single setup.

YLE flange machining centers are fully automated three-axis systems with a single drilling/milling spindle. The system automatically searches for the flange's center and face in workspace, and then adjusts the machining pattern accordingly by controlling spindle position. These features result in the following:

  Productivity: improvements of 25% over general-purpose CNC based drilling, due to reduction in setup times
  Quality: Auto-compensation of positioning inaccuracies
  Process Robustness: Less demand is placed on upstream cutting process as a result of auto-compensation
  Scheduling: improved production planning, by reducing operator-induced variability caused by manual adjustment procedures
  Human Resource Flexibility: Less operator skills are required
